Infrared touch screens(IR) and projected capacitive touch screens(PCAP) are the two common touch technologies that are used these days. However, It is difficult to distinguish between them for unprofessional people. But these two technologies are actually different in design and structure. But if we choose products, we should have a clear idea about the Infrared touch screen(IR) and projected capacitive touch screen(PCAP), this way, we can make an informed decision when selecting the touch screen for your application.
Differences between Infrared touch screens(IR) and Projected capacitive touch screens(PCAP)
Infrared touch screens(IR)
For commercial applications. We usually trust IR touch technology. This technology does not require physical contact with the screen, so the damage is minimal over time. Infrared touch technology designed LED lights and sensors embedded in the display frame above the glass. The LED beam passes through the corresponding sensor on the other side to form an invisible grid. The grid breaks when touched and the sensor recognizes the touch point.
Projected capacitive touch screens(PCAP)
In view of the high precision and fast response time of PCAP technology. It is commonly used in smartphones and tablets. But it is not limited to applications with smaller screen sizes.Pcap touch technology can also be applied to larger screens but on a limited scale. The Pcap touchscreen Uses a tempered edge-to-edge Glass display. The effect is obvious. From simple cleaning to smooth gesture recognition, Pcap provides an amazing interactive experience when using touch applications. However, The Pcap touch screens maybe 60% more expensive than the infrared touch screens.
Unlike Pcap, In infrared touch technology, a bezel will always be necessary.IR technology can be extended to larger sizes without affecting display quality. But in accuracy, Pcap technology is better. Also, IR touch screens cost relatively lesser than PCAP touch solutions.
